Pembroke Park is a town located in Broward County, Florida, United States. The town is located in the Miami metropolitan area and is bordered by Miami Gardens to the north, Hollywood to the south, and Miramar to the west. As of the 2010 census, the town had a population of 6,102.

History

Pembroke Park was originally part of the Everglades until the early 1900s when it was drained and developed for agricultural use. The area was known as “The Meadows” and was used for growing vegetables and raising livestock. In the 1950s, the area was developed into a residential community and was incorporated as the Town of Pembroke Park in 1959.

Geography

Pembroke Park is located at 25°59'25" North, 80°14'17" West (25.990278, -80.237917). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.7 square miles (4.4 km2), all land.

Pembroke Park is home to a variety of businesses, including retail stores, restaurants, and professional services. The town is also home to several industrial parks, which provide employment opportunities for local residents.

Demographics

As of the 2010 census, there were 6,102 people, 2,541 households, and 1,541 families residing in the town. The population density was 3,567.2 people per square mile (1,380.2/km2). There were 2,845 housing units at an average density of 1,664.2 per square mile (642.2/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 57.2% White (non-Hispanic), 33.3% African American, 0.3% Native American, 1.2% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 5.7% from other races, and 2.4% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 18.2% of the population.
There were 2,541 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 33.2% were married couples living together, 20.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 40.2% were non-families. 33.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.39 and the average family size was 3.06.
In the town, the population was spread out, with 25.2% under the age of 18, 9.2% from 18 to 24, 30.2% from 25 to 44, 22.2% from 45 to 64, and 13.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females, there were 94.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.2 males.
The median income for a household in the town was $30,938, and the median income for a family was $35,938. Males had a median income of $27,938 versus $22,938 for females. The per capita income for the town was $15,938. About 14.2% of families and 17.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 24.2% of those under age 18 and 11.2% of those age 65 or over.
