Timber Pines is a census-designated place (CDP) located in Pasco County, Florida, United States. The population was 5,845 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Timber Pines was founded in 1985 by the Deltona Corporation. The community was designed to be a retirement community for active adults. The community was designed to be a self-contained community with its own shopping center, golf course, and other amenities.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 4.2 square miles (10.8 km2), of which 4.1 square miles (10.6 km2) is land and 0.1 square miles (0.2 km2) (2.17%) is water.

Economy

Timber Pines is a retirement community and does not have a large commercial presence. The community does have a shopping center, which includes a grocery store, pharmacy, and other retail stores.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 5,845 people, 3,093 households, and 2,072 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 1,427.2 people per square mile (550.7/km2). There were 3,521 housing units at an average density of 858.2/sq mi (331.2/km2). The racial makeup of the CDP was 97.90% White, 0.45% African American, 0.17% Native American, 0.45% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.17% from other races, and 0.84% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.45% of the population.
There were 3,093 households, out of which 8.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.2% were married couples living together, 5.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.7% were non-families. 28.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 19.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 1.89 and the average family size was 2.27.
In the CDP, the population was spread out, with 7.2% under the age of 18, 2.2% from 18 to 24, 11.2% from 25 to 44, 28.2% from 45 to 64, and 51.2% who were 65 years of age or older.
