Midway CDP Seminole County Summary

Midway Cdp is a census-designated place (CDP) located in Seminole County, Florida. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 2,845 at the 2010 census.

History

Midway Cdp was first settled in the late 19th century by settlers from the North. The area was originally known as Midway Station, named for its location halfway between Sanford and Orlando. The area was largely agricultural, with citrus groves and cattle ranches. In the early 20th century, the area began to develop as a residential community. The first post office was established in 1921.

Geography

Midway Cdp is located at 28°45'25" North, 81°14'45" West (28.756944, -81.245833). According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 4.2 square miles (10.8 km2), all land.

Economy

The economy of Midway Cdp is largely based on tourism and services. The area is home to several hotels and resorts, as well as restaurants and other businesses catering to tourists. The area is also home to several light industrial and manufacturing businesses.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 2,845 people, 1,093 households, and 790 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 677.3 people per square mile (261.3/km2). There were 1,183 housing units at an average density of 282.2/sq mi (109.1/km2). The racial makeup of the CDP was 87.2% White, 8.2% African American, 0.3% Native American, 1.2% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 1.3% from other races, and 1.7% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 5.2% of the population.
There were 1,093 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.2% were married couples living together, 11.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.7% were non-families. 21.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 6.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.60 and the average family size was 3.02.
In the CDP, the population was spread out, with 25.2% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 32.2% from 25 to 44, 22.7% from 45 to 64, and 11.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females, there were 97.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.2 males.
The median income for a household in the CDP was $41,944, and the median income for a family was $45,938. Males had a median income of $31,964 versus $25,938 for females.
