The area that is now Manalapan was originally inhabited by the Tequesta Indians. The first European settlers arrived in the area in the late 1700s. The town was officially incorporated in 1931.

Manalapan is located at 26°30'N 80°3'W (26.50, -80.05). The town has a total area of 2.2 square miles, all of which is land. The town is located on the Atlantic coast, just south of West Palm Beach.
