Gilchrist County is a county located in the north-central part of the U.S. state of Florida. As of the 2010 census, the population was 16,939. Its county seat is Trenton. The county was created in 1925 and is named for Albert W. Gilchrist, Governor of Florida from 1909 to 1913.
Geography
Gilchrist County is located in the Big Bend region of Florida. It is bordered to the north by Alachua County, to the east by Suwannee County, to the south by Levy County, and to the west by Lafayette County. The county has a total area of 539 square miles, of which 535 square miles is land and 4.2 square miles (0.8%) is water.
