East Valley Summary

Valley East is a census-designated place located in Clark County, Nevada. It is located in the Las Vegas Valley, about 15 miles east of the Las Vegas Strip. The population was 8,945 at the 2010 census.

Geography

Valley East is located at 36°3'25" North, 115°2'25" West (36.056944, -115.040278). According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 4.2 square miles (10.8 km2), all of it land.

History

Valley East was originally part of the Las Vegas Township, which was established in 1855. The area was first settled in the late 19th century by Mormon settlers. The area was known as East Las Vegas until the 1950s, when it was renamed Valley East.

Economy

Valley East is home to several businesses, including a number of casinos, restaurants, and retail stores. The area is also home to a number of industrial and manufacturing businesses.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 8,945 people, 3,717 households, and 2,541 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 2,133.3 people per square mile (822.7/km2). There were 4,072 housing units at an average density of 972.2 per square mile (375.3/km2). The racial makeup of the CDP was 68.2% White, 8.2% African American, 0.7% Native American, 4.2% Asian, 0.2% Pacific Islander, 14.2% from other races, and 4.3% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 28.2% of the population.
There were 3,717 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.2% were married couples living together, 11.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.2% were non-families. 24.7% of all households were made up of individuals, and 8.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.41 and the average family size was 2.88.
In the CDP, the population was spread out, with 22.2% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 27.2% from 45 to 64, and 14.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females, there were 97.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.2 males.
The median income for a household in the CDP was $37,917, and the median income for a family was $43,917. Males had a median income of $31,917 versus $25,917 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $19,917. About 8.2% of families and 11.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 15.2% of those under age 18 and 8.2% of those age 65 or over.
