Reddell Summary
Reddell, Louisiana is a small unincorporated community located in Evangeline Parish, Louisiana. It is situated on the banks of Bayou Des Glaises, a tributary of the Mermentau River. The population of Reddell was estimated to be around 500 in 2020.
History
Reddell was founded in the late 1800s by a group of French-speaking settlers from the nearby town of Mamou. The settlers named the town after their leader, John Reddell. The town was originally a farming community, with the main crops being cotton, corn, and sugar cane.
In the early 1900s, Reddell began to grow and develop. The town was home to a number of businesses, including a general store, a blacksmith shop, and a sawmill. The town also had a post office, which opened in 1908.
