Queen Valley Summary

Queen Valley is a census-designated place (CDP) located in Pinal County, Arizona. It is situated in the Sonoran Desert, approximately 40 miles east of Phoenix. The population was 1,945 at the 2010 census.

Geography

Queen Valley is located at 33°20'25" North, 111°30'45" West (33.340278, -111.5125). According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 4.2 square miles (10.8 km2), all of it land.

History

Queen Valley was founded in the late 1800s by a group of miners who were searching for gold. The area was originally known as Queen of the Valley, but the name was eventually shortened to Queen Valley. The area was primarily used for ranching and farming until the 1950s, when it began to be developed as a residential community.

Economy

Queen Valley is primarily a residential community, with most of its residents commuting to nearby cities for work. The area is home to several small businesses, including a gas station, a convenience store, and a few restaurants.

Demographics

As of the census of 2010, there were 1,945 people, 690 households, and 545 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 463.1 people per square mile (179.1/km2). There were 745 housing units at an average density of 178.3 per square mile (68.9/km2). The racial makeup of the CDP was 94.2% White, 0.7% African American, 0.7% Native American, 0.3% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 2.2% from other races, and 2.0% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 8.2% of the population.
There were 690 households, out of which 33.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.2% were married couples living together, 8.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 23.7% were non-families. 19.7% of all households were made up of individuals, and 6.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.81 and the average family size was 3.22.
In the CDP, the population was spread out, with 26.2% under the age of 18, 6.2% from 18 to 24, 24.2% from 25 to 44, 30.2% from 45 to 64, and 13.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females, there were 103.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 103.2 males.
The median income for a household in the CDP was $50,000, and the median income for a family was $54,375. Males had a median income of $41,250 versus $30,000 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $20,945. About 5.2% of families and 6.7% of the population were below the poverty line, including 8.3% of those under age 18 and none of those age 65 or over.
