Watson Summary

Watson is a small city located in the central Arkansas region of the United States. It is situated in the foothills of the Ouachita Mountains, approximately 25 miles northwest of Little Rock. The city is part of the Little Rock-North Little Rock-Conway Metropolitan Statistical Area. As of the 2010 census, the population of Watson was 1,845.

History

The area that is now Watson was first settled in the early 1800s by settlers from the nearby town of Hot Springs. The first post office in the area was established in 1851 and was named Watsonville. The name was changed to Watson in 1883.
The city was incorporated in 1891 and was named after the first postmaster, William Watson. The city was originally a farming community, but in the early 1900s, the timber industry began to take off in the area. The timber industry was the main source of employment for the city until the 1950s when the industry began to decline.

Geography

Watson is located at 34°45'25" North, 93°17'45" West (34.7569, -93.2958). The city is situated in the foothills of the Ouachita Mountains and is approximately 25 miles northwest of Little Rock.
The city has a total area of 2.2 square miles, all of which is land. The city is located in the Central Arkansas region of the United States.

Economy

The economy of Watson is largely based on agriculture and timber. The city is home to several small farms and ranches, as well as a few timber companies. The city also has a few small businesses, including a few restaurants and retail stores.

Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.2% of the population.
