Sedgwick Summary

Sedgwick is a small town located in the northwest corner of Arkansas in Benton County. It is situated on the banks of the White River and is part of the Fayetteville-Springdale-Rogers Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town has a population of just over 1,000 people and is known for its rural charm and friendly atmosphere.

History

Sedgwick was founded in 1883 by a group of settlers from Missouri. The town was named after a prominent local family, the Sedgwicks. The town was originally a farming community, but in the early 1900s, the town began to grow and develop. The first school was built in 1906 and the first post office was established in 1907.
In the 1920s, the town began to experience a period of growth and development. The first bank was established in 1923 and the first newspaper, the Sedgwick Times, was published in 1925. The town also saw the construction of a new school and a new courthouse.
In the 1950s, the town experienced a period of decline as many of the local businesses closed and the population began to decline. However, in the late 1970s, the town began to experience a period of revitalization. The town was designated as a historic district in 1979 and the downtown area was renovated.
