Millington Summary

Millington is a small town located in Kent County, Maryland, United States. It is situated on the banks of the Chester River, about 25 miles south of the state capital of Annapolis. The town has a population of approximately 1,500 people and is part of the Chestertown Micropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Millington was first settled in the early 1700s by English settlers. The town was originally known as “Millington’s Landing” and was a major port for the shipping of tobacco and other goods. In 1790, the town was officially incorporated as Millington.
During the War of 1812, Millington was the site of a major naval battle between the British and American forces. The British were victorious and the town was burned to the ground. After the war, the town was rebuilt and continued to be a major port for the shipping of tobacco and other goods.
In the late 19th century, Millington became a popular summer resort destination for wealthy families from Baltimore and Washington, D.C. The town was known for its beautiful scenery and luxurious hotels.

Geography

Millington is located in Kent County, Maryland, on the banks of the Chester River. The town is situated about 25 miles south of the state capital of Annapolis. The town has a total area of 1.2 square miles, all of which is land.
