History
Farmingdale was first settled in 1790 by a group of settlers from Massachusetts. The town was incorporated in 1803 and named after the farming community of Farmingdale, Massachusetts. The town was originally a farming community, but in the late 19th century, it became a center for the lumber industry. The town was also home to several mills, including a paper mill, a grist mill, and a sawmill.
Geography
Farmingdale is located at 44°14'N 69°51'W (44.23, -69.85). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 11.2 square miles (29.0 km2), of which, 11.1 square miles (28.7 km2) of it is land and 0.1 square miles (0.3 km2) of it (0.45%) is water.

Farmingdale is a small town with a population of just over 2,800 people. The town is primarily a residential community, with most of its residents commuting to nearby towns and cities for work. The town does have a few businesses, including a few restaurants, a grocery store, and a few small retail stores.
Demographics
As of the census of 2010, there were 2,845 people, 1,093 households, and 790 families residing in the town. The population density was 256.2 people per square mile (98.9/km2). There were 1,164 housing units at an average density of 104.7 per square mile (40.4/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 97.2% White, 0.3% African American, 0.3% Native American, 0.4% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 0.3% from other races, and 1.4% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.2% of the population.
There were 1,093 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.2% were married couples living together, 11.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.7% were non-families. 22.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 8.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.60 and the average family size was 3.03.
In the town, the population was spread out, with 25.7% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 27.2% from 45 to 64, and 11.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 97.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.2 males.
