Goldstream Summary

Goldstream, Alaska is a small unincorporated community located in the Yukon-Koyukuk Census Area of Alaska. It is situated on the south bank of the Yukon River, approximately 40 miles east of the city of Fairbanks. The population of Goldstream was estimated to be around 50 people in 2020.

History

Goldstream was first established in the late 1800s as a mining camp. Gold was discovered in the area in 1885 and miners flocked to the area in search of riches. The town was officially established in 1898 and was named after the nearby Goldstream Creek. The town quickly grew and by the early 1900s, it had a population of over 500 people.
The town was a bustling center of activity during the gold rush era. It had a post office, a general store, a saloon, a hotel, and a school. The town also had a newspaper, the Goldstream Gazette, which was published from 1898 to 1902.
