Worden Summary

Worden is a small village located in Madison County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,093 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Edwardsville, IL Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Worden was founded in 1854 by William Worden, a farmer from New York. Worden was a small farming community until the arrival of the railroad in 1872. The railroad brought new industry and growth to the area, and Worden soon became a thriving village. The village was incorporated in 1887.

Geography

Worden is located at 38°51'25" North, 89°51'45" West (38.856944, -89.862500). According to the 2010 census, Worden has a total area of 0.9 square miles (2.3 km2), all land.

Economy

Worden's economy is largely based on agriculture. The village is home to several farms, as well as a few small businesses. Worden is also home to a number of manufacturing companies, including a plastics factory and a metal fabrication plant.

Demographics

As of the 2010 census, there were 1,093 people, 431 households, and 298 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,213.9 people per square mile (468.7/km2). There were 463 housing units at an average density of 513.3 per square mile (197.9/km2).
