Washburn Summary

Washburn, Illinois is a small village located in Woodford County, Illinois. It is situated on the banks of the Vermilion River, approximately 10 miles south of the city of Peoria. The village has a population of approximately 1,000 people and is part of the Peoria Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

The area that is now Washburn was first settled in 1835 by a group of settlers from New York. The village was originally known as “Vermilionville” and was later renamed “Washburn” in honor of a local settler, William Washburn. The village was officially incorporated in 1867.
