Viola Summary

Viola, Illinois is a small village located in the northern part of the state, in LaSalle County. It is situated on the banks of the Vermilion River, and is surrounded by rolling hills and farmland. The village has a population of just over 500 people, and is a quiet, rural community.

History

Viola was founded in 1854 by a group of settlers from New York. The village was named after the daughter of one of the settlers, Viola Smith. The settlers were attracted to the area by the abundance of natural resources, including timber, coal, and limestone. The village quickly grew, and by the late 1800s, it had become a thriving community.
The village was home to several businesses, including a sawmill, a grist mill, a blacksmith shop, and a general store. The village also had a post office, a school, and a church. In the early 1900s, the village was connected to the outside world by the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad.

Geography

Viola is located in the northern part of LaSalle County, in the state of Illinois. It is situated on the banks of the Vermilion River, and is surrounded by rolling hills and farmland. The village is located about 25 miles south of the city of Ottawa, and about 50 miles west of Chicago.
The village has a total area of 0.6 square miles, all of which is land. The village is located at an elevation of 690 feet above sea level. The climate in the area is characterized by hot, humid summers and cold, snowy winters.

Economy
