Tremont Summary

Tremont is a small village located in Tazewell County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,845 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Peoria, Illinois Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Tremont was founded in 1836 by a group of settlers from Tremont, Maine. The village was named after the Maine town, and the first post office was established in 1837. The village was incorporated in 1867.

Geography

Tremont is located at 40°31'17" North, 89°30'45" West (40.521445, -89.512599). According to the 2010 census, Tremont has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2), all land.

Economy

Tremont's economy is largely based on agriculture. The village is home to several farms, including the Tremont Dairy Farm, which produces milk and other dairy products. The village also has several small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a restaurant.

Demographics

As of the census of 2010, there were 1,845 people, 717 households, and 486 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,539.2 people per square mile (593.7/km2).
