Tilden Summary

Tilden, Illinois is a small village located in Randolph County, Illinois. It is situated on the Kaskaskia River, approximately 25 miles east of St. Louis, Missouri. The village has a population of 1,093 people, according to the 2010 census.

History

Tilden was founded in 1858 by William Tilden, a local farmer. The village was named after him. The first post office was established in 1859. The village was incorporated in 1872.
Tilden was a small farming community until the early 1900s when the railroad came through. This allowed for the growth of the village and the establishment of several businesses. The village was also home to a number of coal mines, which provided employment for many of the residents.

Geography

Tilden is located in Randolph County, Illinois. It is situated on the Kaskaskia River, approximately 25 miles east of St. Louis, Missouri. The village has a total area of 0.7 square miles, all of which is land.
