History
Steeleville was founded in 1819 by William Steele, a Revolutionary War veteran. The town was named after him and was incorporated in 1872. The town was originally a farming community, but it soon became a center for coal mining and timber production. The town was also home to a number of factories, including a brickyard, a flour mill, and a furniture factory.
Geography
Steeleville is located at 38°14'25" North, 89°45'45" West (38.240278, -89.7625). According to the 2010 census, the city has a total area of 1.2 square miles, all land.
Economy
Steeleville's economy is largely based on agriculture and manufacturing. The town is home to a number of small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a few restaurants. The town also has a few small industrial parks, which are home to a variety of businesses, including a plastics manufacturer and a printing company.

The average household size was 2.41 and the average family size was 3.00.

The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females, there were 91.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.2 males.
