Shipman Summary

Shipman is a small village located in Macoupin County, Illinois. It is situated in the central part of the state, about 25 miles northeast of St. Louis, Missouri. The village has a population of approximately 1,000 people and covers an area of 0.6 square miles.

History

Shipman was founded in 1854 by a group of settlers from Kentucky. The village was named after a local family, the Shipmans, who had settled in the area in the early 1800s. The first post office was established in 1856 and the village was incorporated in 1872.
