San Jose Summary

San Jose, Illinois is a small village located in the southwestern corner of Clay County, Illinois. It is situated along the banks of the Little Wabash River, and is approximately 10 miles south of Flora, the county seat. The village has a population of approximately 500 people, and is part of the Flora Micropolitan Statistical Area.

History

San Jose was founded in 1858 by a group of settlers from the nearby town of Xenia. The settlers were looking for a place to settle and start a new life, and they chose the area along the Little Wabash River. The village was named after San Jose, California, which was the hometown of one of the settlers. The village was incorporated in 1872, and the first post office was established in 1873.

Geography

San Jose is located in the southwestern corner of Clay County, Illinois. It is situated along the banks of the Little Wabash River, and is approximately 10 miles south of Flora, the county seat. The village has a total area of 0.6 square miles, all of which is land. The terrain is mostly flat, with some rolling hills in the area.
