Plymouth Summary

Plymouth, Illinois is a small village located in Hancock County, Illinois. It is situated on the banks of the Mississippi River, approximately 25 miles south of Quincy. The village has a population of approximately 1,000 people and is part of the Quincy, IL–MO Micropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Plymouth was founded in 1837 by a group of settlers from Plymouth, Massachusetts. The settlers were looking for a place to settle and start a new life. The village was named after the Massachusetts town and was incorporated in 1845.
The village was originally a farming community, but it soon became a center for the lumber industry. The lumber industry was a major source of income for the village and it helped to fuel the growth of the village.
In the late 19th century, the village was a major stop on the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad. The railroad brought in new people and businesses to the village and helped to further its growth.

Geography

Plymouth is located in the western part of Hancock County, Illinois. It is situated on the banks of the Mississippi River, approximately 25 miles south of Quincy. The village has a total area of 0.9 square miles, all of which is land.
The village is located in a rural area and is surrounded by farmland. The nearest major city is Quincy, which is located 25 miles to the north.

Economy
