Odin Summary

Odin is a small village located in Marion County, Illinois, United States. It is situated in the southern part of the state, about 25 miles east of St. Louis, Missouri. The population of Odin was 1,093 at the 2010 census.

History

Odin was founded in 1854 by a group of German immigrants led by John and Mary Ann Schuette. The Schuettes named the town after Odin, the chief god of Norse mythology. The town was incorporated in 1858.
In the late 19th century, Odin was a thriving agricultural community. The town was home to several grain elevators, a flour mill, a creamery, and a brickyard. The town also had a railroad station, which connected it to St. Louis and other nearby towns.
In the early 20th century, Odin began to decline. The railroad station closed in the 1920s, and the brickyard closed in the 1930s. The town's population began to decline as well, and by the 1950s, it had dropped to just over 500 people.

Odin is located at 38°25'25" North, 89°17'45" West (38.423, -89.296). The village is situated in the southern part of Marion County, about 25 miles east of St. Louis, Missouri.
