Baden, Illinois is a small village located in Clinton County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,072 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Centralia, Illinois Micropolitan Statistical Area.
History
Baden was founded in 1854 by German immigrants who named the village after the German city of Baden-Baden. The village was incorporated in 1858.
Geography
Baden is located at 38°30'25" North, 89°17'45" West (38.506944, -89.295833). According to the 2010 census, Baden has a total area of 0.7 square miles (1.8 km2), all land.
Economy
The economy of Baden is largely based on agriculture. The village is home to several small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a restaurant.
Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there were 1,072 people, 431 households, and 298 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,541.2 people per square mile (595.2/km2). There were 463 housing units at an average density of 663.2 per square mile (256.3/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 98.68% White, 0.09% African American, 0.09% Native American, 0.09% Asian, 0.09% from other races, and 0.93% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.56% of the population.
There were 431 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.2% were married couples living together, 9.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.2% were non-families. 28.7% of all households were made up of individuals, and 15.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.49 and the average family size was 3.08.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 27.2% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 20.2% from 45 to 64, and 16.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females, there were 94.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.2 males.
