History

Mulberry Grove was founded in 1819 by a group of settlers from Kentucky. The village was named after the mulberry trees that grew in abundance in the area. The settlers built a log cabin and a grist mill, and the village quickly grew. By 1820, the village had a post office, a school, and a blacksmith shop.
In 1821, the village was incorporated and the first mayor was elected. The village continued to grow and by the mid-1800s, it had become a thriving agricultural community. The village was home to several businesses, including a general store, a hotel, and a sawmill.
In the late 1800s, the village was connected to the outside world by the Illinois Central Railroad. This allowed the village to become a shipping center for the surrounding area. The village also became a popular tourist destination, as it was located near several popular attractions, including the Shawnee National Forest and the Garden of the Gods.

The average household size was 2.56 and the average family size was 3.09.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 27.2% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 22.2% from 45 to 64, and 14.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females, there were 97.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.3 males.

The per capita income for the village was $17,845.
