Le Roy Summary
Le Roy is a village located in McLean County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,945 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Bloomington–Normal Metropolitan Statistical Area.
History
Le Roy was founded in 1854 by William Le Roy, a prominent local businessman. The village was named after him. The first post office was established in 1855. The village was incorporated in 1867.
Geography
Le Roy is located at 40°30'25" North, 88°51'17" West (40.506944, -88.854722). According to the 2010 census, the village has a total area of 1.02 square miles (2.64 km2), all land.
Economy
Le Roy is home to several businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, a bank, a pharmacy, and several restaurants. The village also has a public library and a post office.
Demographics
As of the census of 2010, there were 1,945 people, 745 households, and 486 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,908.8 people per square mile (737.2/km2). There were 809 housing units at an average density of 793.1 per square mile (306.3/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 97.2% White, 0.6% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.4% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 1.4% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.2% of the population.
There were 745 households, out of which 32.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.2% were married couples living together, 11.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.3% were non-families. 30.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 14.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size was 3.04.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 25.7% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 22.2% from 45 to 64, and 15.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females, there were 91.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.2 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $41,250, and the median income for a family was $50,000. Males had a median income of $36,250 versus $25,000 for females. The per capita income for the village was $19,945.
