Joy Summary

Joy, Illinois is a small village located in Vermilion County, Illinois. It is situated in the eastern part of the state, about 25 miles south of Champaign and about 50 miles west of Indianapolis, Indiana. The population of Joy was 1,093 at the 2010 census.

Geography

Joy is located at 40°25'25" North, 87°45'45" West (40.423, -87.7625). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.6 square miles (1.6 km2), all land.

Economy

The economy of Joy is largely based on agriculture. The village is home to several farms, including the Joy Farms, which produces corn, soybeans, and wheat. The village also has a few small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a restaurant.

Demographics

As of the census of 2010, there were 1,093 people, 441 households, and 298 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,817.5 people per square mile (700.7/km2). There were 471 housing units at an average density of 781.7 per square mile (301.7/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 97.7% White, 0.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 1.7% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.2% of the population.
