Ipava Summary

Ipava is a small village located in Fulton County, Illinois. It is situated in the northwest corner of the state, about 25 miles south of the Iowa border. The village has a population of approximately 500 people and is part of the Canton Micropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Ipava was founded in 1836 by a group of settlers from New York. The village was named after the Ipava Indians, a Native American tribe that once lived in the area. The first settlers were mostly farmers and the village quickly grew to become a thriving agricultural community.
In 1854, the first post office was established in Ipava and the village was officially incorporated in 1859. During the Civil War, Ipava was a major supplier of food and supplies to the Union Army.
In the late 19th century, Ipava became a popular tourist destination due to its proximity to the Mississippi River. The village was also home to several factories, including a flour mill, a sawmill, and a brickyard.

Geography

Ipava is located in the northwest corner of Fulton County, Illinois. It is situated on the banks of the Spoon River, which flows through the village. The village is surrounded by rolling hills and farmland.
The climate in Ipava is typical of the Midwest, with hot summers and cold winters. The average temperature in July is 81°F and the average temperature in January is 24°F.
