Industry Summary

Industry, Illinois is a small village located in McDonough County, Illinois. It is situated in the western part of the state, about 25 miles south of Macomb and about 30 miles north of Quincy. The village has a population of approximately 500 people, and is part of the Macomb-Industry-Colchester Township.

History

Industry was founded in 1836 by a group of settlers from New York. The village was originally known as Industry Center, and was named after the nearby Industry Creek. The creek was named by the settlers because of the abundance of industry in the area, such as sawmills, gristmills, and blacksmith shops.
In 1837, the first post office was established in Industry, and the village was officially incorporated in 1854. During the Civil War, Industry was a major supplier of food and supplies to the Union Army.
