Hillsdale Summary

Hillsdale, Illinois is a small village located in the northeastern corner of the state, in Stephenson County. It is situated on the banks of the Pecatonica River, and is surrounded by rolling hills and farmland. The village has a population of just over 1,000 people, and is a quiet, rural community.

History

Hillsdale was founded in 1837 by a group of settlers from New York. The village was named after the nearby hills, and was originally a farming community. The first post office was established in 1845, and the village was incorporated in 1867.
