Goreville Summary

Goreville is a village located in Johnson County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,093 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Marion-Carbondale-Herrin, IL Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Goreville was founded in 1818 by William Gore, a Revolutionary War veteran. The village was originally known as "Gore's Settlement" and was located in the area of what is now known as the intersection of Goreville Road and Illinois Route 37. The village was officially incorporated in 1872.
