Gladstone is a small village located in Pike County, Illinois, United States. The population was 545 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pittsfield, Illinois Micropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Gladstone was founded in 1836 by a group of settlers from New York. The village was named after William E. Gladstone, a British Prime Minister. The first post office was established in 1837.
In 1854, the village was incorporated. The first school was built in 1856. The first church was built in 1858.
In 1871, the village was connected to the Chicago and Alton Railroad. This allowed for the growth of the village and the surrounding area.
In 1876, the village was connected to the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad. This allowed for the growth of the village and the surrounding area.
In 1883, the village was connected to the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad. This allowed for the growth of the village and the surrounding area.

Gladstone is a small village with a population of 545 people. The village is primarily a farming community. The main crops grown in the area are corn, soybeans, and wheat.
The village also has a few small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a restaurant.

Demographics

As of the census of 2010, there were 545 people, 212 households, and 149 families residing in the village. The population density was 890.0 people per square mile (344.3/km2). There were 229 housing units at an average density of 376.7 per square mile (145.3/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 97.3% White, 0.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.4% from other races, and 1.5% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.1% of the population.
There were 212 households, out of which 33.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.2% were married couples living together, 10.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.7% were non-families. 25.9% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.58 and the average family size was 3.09.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 27.2% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 22.7% from 45 to 64, and 13.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females, there were 97.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.3 males.
