Flossmoor Summary
Flossmoor is a village located in Cook County, Illinois, United States. It is a suburb of Chicago, located approximately 25 miles south of the city. The population was 9,464 at the 2010 census.
History
Flossmoor was first settled in the late 19th century by German and Irish immigrants. The village was incorporated in 1924, and was named after the Flossmoor Country Club, which was established in 1895. The club was named after the Flossmoor area of Scotland, which was the ancestral home of the club's founder, William Bross Lloyd.
Geography
Flossmoor is located at 41°33'17" North, 87°41'17" West (41.554722, -87.688056). According to the 2010 census, Flossmoor has a total area of 4.8 square miles, all land.
Economy
Flossmoor is home to several businesses, including a number of restaurants, retail stores, and professional services. The village is also home to the Flossmoor Country Club, which is a private golf and country club.

As of the 2010 census, there were 9,464 people, 3,717 households, and 2,619 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,967.2 people per square mile. The racial makeup of the village was 79.2% White, 11.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 4.2% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 2.3% from other races, and 2.9% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 6.7% of the population.
