Farmer City Summary

Farmer City is a small city located in DeWitt County, Illinois, United States. The population was 2,071 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Bloomington–Normal Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

The area that is now Farmer City was first settled in 1829 by William and Mary Farmer. The city was officially incorporated in 1867. The city was named after the Farmer family, who were among the first settlers in the area.

Geography

Farmer City is located at 40°25'17" North, 88°51'45" West (40.421445, -88.862445). According to the 2010 census, the city has a total area of 1.37 square miles (3.55 km2), all land.

Economy

The economy of Farmer City is largely based on agriculture. The city is home to several large farms, as well as a number of smaller family-owned farms. The city also has a number of small businesses, including restaurants, retail stores, and service providers.

Demographics

As of the census of 2010, there were 2,071 people, 817 households, and 545 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,510.2 people per square mile (584.2/km2). There were 881 housing units at an average density of 644.3 per square mile (248.7/km2).
