Ewing Summary

Ewing is a small village located in Franklin County, Illinois, United States. The population was 545 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Mount Vernon Micropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Ewing was founded in 1818 by William Ewing, a Revolutionary War veteran. He purchased the land from the government and began to build a small settlement. The village was originally known as Ewing's Settlement, but was later changed to Ewing. The village was incorporated in 1872.
Ewing was a small farming community for many years. In the late 19th century, the village began to grow as coal mining became an important industry in the area. The coal mines provided employment for many of the residents and helped to fuel the local economy.
