Dix Summary
Dix is a village located in Jefferson County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,093 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Mount Vernon Micropolitan Statistical Area.
History
Dix was founded in 1858 by William Dix, a local farmer. The village was originally known as Dix's Station, and was located on the Cairo and Vincennes Railroad. The village was incorporated in 1872.

The economy of Dix is largely based on agriculture. The village is home to several farms, as well as a few small businesses.
Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there were 1,093 people, 441 households, and 305 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,179.3 people per square mile (456.2/km2). There were 471 housing units at an average density of 507.3 per square mile (196.2/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 98.90% White, 0.09% African American, 0.09% Native American, 0.09% Asian, 0.09% from other races, and 0.73% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.37% of the population.
There were 441 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.2% were married couples living together, 9.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.2% were non-families. 28.7% of all households were made up of individuals, and 15.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.48 and the average family size was 3.06.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 27.2% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 21.2% from 45 to 64, and 15.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females, there were 94.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.2 males.
