Danvers Summary

Danvers, Illinois is a small village located in McLean County, Illinois. It is situated in the center of the state, about 25 miles north of Bloomington and about 30 miles south of Peoria. The village has a population of 1,845 people, according to the 2010 census.

History

The area that is now Danvers was first settled in 1829 by a group of settlers from New York. The village was originally known as “New York Settlement” and was later renamed “Danvers” after the town of Danvers, Massachusetts. The village was officially incorporated in 1867.
In the late 19th century, Danvers was a thriving agricultural community. The village was home to several grain elevators, a flour mill, a creamery, and a canning factory. The village also had a railroad station, which was used to transport goods to and from the surrounding area.
In the early 20th century, the village began to decline as the railroad station closed and the agricultural industry shifted away from the area. The village was also affected by the Great Depression, which caused many of the businesses to close.

Geography

Danvers is located in the center of McLean County, Illinois. It is situated on the banks of the Mackinaw River, which flows through the village. The village is surrounded by farmland and is located about 25 miles north of Bloomington and about 30 miles south of Peoria.
The village has a total area of 0.7 square miles, all of which is land. The village is located at an elevation of 690 feet above sea level.
