Colchester Summary

Colchester, Illinois is a small village located in McDonough County, Illinois. It is situated in the southeastern corner of the state, about 25 miles south of Macomb and about 30 miles west of Quincy. The village has a population of approximately 1,000 people and covers an area of 0.6 square miles.

History

Colchester was founded in 1836 by a group of settlers from New England. The village was named after Colchester, Connecticut, the hometown of one of the settlers. The first post office was established in 1837 and the village was incorporated in 1867.
