History

Caseyville was founded in 1819 by William Casey, a Revolutionary War veteran. The village was originally known as Casey's Station, and was a stop on the Vandalia Railroad. The village was incorporated in 1872.

Geography

Caseyville is located at 38°32'25" North, 90°2'25" West (38.540278, -90.040278). According to the 2010 census, the village has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2), all land.

The economy of Caseyville is largely based on agriculture and manufacturing. The village is home to several small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a restaurant. The village also has a post office and a bank.

Demographics

As of the census of 2010, there were 2,934 people, 1,093 households, and 790 families residing in the village. The population density was 2,444.2 people per square mile (943.7/km2). There were 1,093 housing units at an average density of 910.8 per square mile (351.7/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 95.2% White, 1.2% African American, 0.3% Native American, 0.7% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 0.9% from other races, and 1.6% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.7% of the population.
There were 1,093 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.2% were married couples living together, 11.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.7% were non-families. 24.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 10.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.67 and the average family size was 3.17.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 25.7% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 28.7% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 13.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females, there were 95.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.2 males.
