History

Carrier Mills was founded in 1837 by William Carrier, a local farmer and miller. He built a mill on the Saline River and named it Carrier Mills. The village was incorporated in 1867.
In the late 19th century, Carrier Mills was a major center for the production of flour and other grain products. The village was also home to several coal mines, which provided employment for many of the local residents.

As of the 2010 census, there were 1,541 people, 645 households, and 431 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,279.2 people per square mile. There were 717 housing units at an average density of 598.3 per square mile.
