Brighton Summary

Brighton, Illinois is a small village located in Macoupin County, Illinois. It is situated on the banks of the Macoupin Creek, approximately 25 miles northeast of St. Louis, Missouri. The village has a population of 1,845 people, according to the 2010 census.

History

Brighton was founded in 1837 by a group of settlers from Kentucky and Tennessee. The village was named after the English city of Brighton. The first settlers were attracted to the area by the abundance of timber and the fertile soil. The village was incorporated in 1867.
