Bradford Summary

Bradford, Illinois is a small village located in Stark County, Illinois. It is situated in the northwest corner of the state, approximately 30 miles from the Mississippi River. The village has a population of approximately 1,000 people and is part of the Peoria, Illinois Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Bradford, Illinois was founded in 1836 by a group of settlers from New York. The village was named after the town of Bradford, New York, which was the hometown of the settlers. The village was incorporated in 1867 and has remained a small, rural community ever since.
The village was originally a farming community, with the main crops being corn, wheat, and oats. In the late 19th century, the village began to diversify its economy with the addition of a sawmill, a grist mill, and a brickyard. The village also had a number of small businesses, including a general store, a blacksmith shop, and a hotel.
