Bone Gap Summary

Gap, Illinois is a small village located in the southeastern corner of the state, in the county of Fayette. It is situated on the banks of the Embarras River, and is surrounded by rolling hills and farmland. The village has a population of just over 500 people, and is a quiet, rural community.

History

The area that is now known as Gap, Illinois was first settled in the early 1800s by a group of settlers from Kentucky. The settlers were attracted to the area due to its fertile soil and abundant natural resources. The village was originally known as “Gap” due to the gap in the hills that the settlers had to cross in order to reach the area. The village was officially incorporated in 1854, and the name was changed to “Gap, Illinois” in 1856.
The village grew slowly over the years, and by the turn of the century, it had a population of just over 500 people. The village was primarily an agricultural community, with most of the residents working in the fields or in the local sawmill. The village also had a few small businesses, including a general store, a blacksmith, and a post office.
