Astoria Summary

Astoria, Illinois is a small village located in Fulton County, Illinois. It is situated on the banks of the Illinois River, approximately 25 miles south of Peoria. The village has a population of 1,717 people, according to the 2010 census.

History

Astoria was founded in 1836 by a group of settlers from New York. The village was named after Astoria, New York, the hometown of the settlers. The settlers were attracted to the area due to its fertile soil and abundant natural resources. The first settlers built a sawmill and gristmill, which provided the foundation for the village’s economy.
