Alpha Summary

Alpha is a village in Logan County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,845 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Bloomington–Normal Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Alpha was founded in 1854 by a group of settlers from Ohio. The village was named after Alpha, Ohio, the hometown of the settlers.

The first post office in Alpha was established in 1855

In 1867, the Chicago and Paducah Railroad was built through Alpha, connecting the village to the larger cities of Bloomington and Peoria.

In 1872 Alpha was incorporated as a village

Economy

The village is also home to several manufacturing companies, including Alpha Manufacturing, which produces agricultural equipment, and Alpha Plastics, which produces plastic products.
