Woodson Summary

Woodson, Illinois is a small village located in the western part of the state, in Brown County. It is situated on the banks of the Embarras River, and is surrounded by rolling hills and farmland. The village has a population of just over 500 people, and is part of the larger Brown County area.

History

Woodson was founded in 1837 by a group of settlers from Kentucky. The village was named after the first settler, William Woodson, who was a veteran of the War of 1812. The village was originally a farming community, and the settlers grew corn, wheat, and other crops. As the years passed, the village grew and prospered. In 1854, the first post office was established, and in 1856, the first school was built.
