Wellington is a village located in the state of Illinois, United States. It is located in the county of Livingston and is part of the Bloomington-Normal Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population of Wellington was 1,845 at the 2010 census.

History

The area that is now Wellington was first settled in 1835 by a group of settlers from New York. The village was originally known as “New York Settlement” and was later renamed “Wellington” in honor of the Duke of Wellington. The village was officially incorporated in 1867.
In the late 19th century, Wellington was a thriving agricultural community. The village was home to several grain elevators, a flour mill, a creamery, and a canning factory. The village also had a railroad station, which was used to transport goods to and from the village.
In the early 20th century, Wellington experienced a period of growth and development. The village was home to several businesses, including a bank, a hotel, a movie theater, and a variety of stores.

Geography

Wellington is located at 40°59'25"N 88°37'45"W (40.990278, -88.629167). The village is situated in the northern part of Livingston County, approximately 10 miles south of Pontiac and 25 miles east of Bloomington.
The village is located in a rural area and is surrounded by farmland. The nearest major city is Bloomington, which is located 25 miles to the west.

Wellington has a humid continental climate, with hot summers and cold winters. The average temperature in the summer is around 75°F (24°C), while the average temperature in the winter is around 25°F (-4°C).
