Waverly Summary

Waverly, Illinois is a small village located in Morgan County, Illinois. It is situated on the banks of the Sangamon River, approximately 25 miles northwest of Springfield. The village has a population of 1,845 as of the 2010 census.

History

The area that is now Waverly was first settled in 1820 by a group of settlers from Kentucky. The village was originally known as “New Hope” and was later renamed “Waverly” in 1837. The name was chosen in honor of Sir Walter Scott’s novel, Waverley.
