History

Sugar Grove was first settled in 1834 by a group of settlers from New York. The village was originally called Sugar Grove Township, and was named after the abundance of maple trees in the area. The first post office was established in 1837, and the village was incorporated in 1957.

Geography

Sugar Grove is located at 41°47'25" North, 88°25'17" West (41.790278, -88.421389). According to the 2010 census, the village has a total area of 5.9 square miles, all land.

Economy

Sugar Grove is home to several businesses, including a number of manufacturing companies. The village is also home to the Sugar Grove Campus of Waubonsee Community College, which offers a variety of educational programs.

As of the 2010 census, there were 5,586 people, 1,945 households, and 1,521 families residing in the village. The population density was 945.2 people per square mile.
