History
Shabbona was founded in 1835 by Chief Shabbona, a Potawatomi Indian. He was a leader of the Potawatomi tribe and a friend of the settlers who had come to the area. He was known for his kindness and generosity to the settlers, and the village was named in his honor.
The first settlers in the area were mostly of English and German descent. They built homes and businesses, and the village grew quickly. By the late 1800s, Shabbona had become a thriving community with a variety of businesses, including a hotel, a bank, a post office, a blacksmith shop, and a general store.

Shabbona is located at 41°37'25" North, 88°45'45" West (41.623, -88.7625). It is situated in the northern part of DeKalb County, about 50 miles west of Chicago. The village is bordered by the towns of Waterman to the north, Earlville to the east, and Paw Paw to the south.
The village is located in the Kishwaukee River Valley, which is part of the larger Rock River Valley. The Kishwaukee River flows through the village, and there are several small lakes and ponds in the area. The terrain is mostly flat, with some rolling hills.
